Visit / Transit Hong Kong

Anyone who wishes to visit or transit Hong Kong but does not enjoy the visa waiver concession or wants to stay beyond the entitled visa-free period must obtain a visa / entry permit before coming. This entry arrangement does not apply to Chinese residents of the Mainland and Taiwan (other than People's Republic of China passport holders and Chinese residents of Taiwan living overseas).

Any person who wishes to enter Hong Kong to establish or join in business under the General Employment Policy is required to obtain a visa/entry permit before coming to Hong Kong.

Arrangement for Entry to Hong Kong from the Mainland

Article 22(4) of the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region stipulates that, for entry into the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, people from other parts of China must apply for approval. The provisions of this Article, in accordance with the Interpretation by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress in 1999, mean that Mainland residents who wish to enter Hong Kong for whatever reason, must apply to the relevant authorities of their residential districts for approval in accordance with the relevant national laws and administrative regulations, and must hold valid documents issued by the relevant authorities.
